I have used both McAfee and Norton at one time or another, and have been happy with each. I use McAfee now at both home and work, because I like the support on their web site better than other virus protection companies.

I really only have experience with norton and Macaffee, but I definitely prefer norton over macaffee, Macaffee causes a lot of blue screens and is good at telling someone they have a virus but not actually removing it.

I use Norton, I tried McAffe first and was dissatisfied.
Also we used PC-Cillin on some of our customers machines, it came free with their Mobo, but I was not impressed with it...

    Cool

For networks I'd have to say Sophos has impressed me the most.

For a single machine setup I'd say that Vet was the best except that bloody CA bought them out and have been using their tech since...

We just started using the newest thing from McAfee, ASaP. I was hesitant, and it was a little tricky to get going on some machines due to wacky things with IE, but so far so good. No more downloading .dat files or anything. It's fully automated and you can even view your company's reports to see who should be yelled at for getting homepage.vbs four hundred times. Two thumbs up so far.

We have McAffee on the network at work, I use F-Prot from the command line in emergency situations.

I don't run active antivirus at home, I live by a set of strict rules that prevent viruses. I have had a total of two viruses in twenty plus years of computing, both from LAN parties.

I keep a very close eye on the machines at work and send out virus alerts to everyone here. Most of the time they don't listen anyway.

I also like what I have seen from Trend.

everytime i consider the possibility that mcafee makes a quality product, I visit their website and let all the popups remind me why I have zero respect for them. i'd get fewer popups going to a porn site. not... that i would.... know about that.

McAfee eats it, Nortons OK but uses a good deal of overhead and will slow a system. I have heard lots of good things about some of the smaller companies. Presently I use Inoculate IT's old virus scanner that was free and it rules. I have a copy of Kaspersky's AVP and may install that on one of my systems for the heck of it but in general I'd just have to tell you to go with what you like. Most of them are fairly similar. Just avoid McAfee (we use it at work and you would not believe how bad it is).

Lucky you. McAfee always messed up my computer. I just had a client who had it on his computer and it would freeze it when the computer whent to standby. Uninstalled it and put AVG from www.grisoft.com and the thing works like a charm. AVG has kept me clean all the years I've used it.
