pcchips, parkard hell, any proprietary computers except laptops.
ABIT mb's -these boards are having a real quality control problem.
Starting to dislike Matsonic. The models we chose (that means we didn't use all the their models) to use and distribute were okay, but the dealer who supplied us these mb's started to screw around with us on prices and shipment. So we dropped them altogether now.

Thumbs down

WINMODEMS SUCK!

Patriot Computers also suck big time. They made the infamous Barbie and Hot Wheels computers. These things made eMachines look good! Thank goodness Patriot is bankrupt.

Other things that suck: Norton Crashguard, FirstAid, anything made by Syquest, Microsoft Bob, NIC's based on the Realtek chipset, 3com SOHO products (WHY oh WHY?) , Mwave modem/sound combo cards, ICQ, proprietary anything, stuff bought at Future Shop, etc etc etc.....

I have had nothing but joy with HP products, though. But I haven't worked with anything low end like the Pavillion - I would guess that's where the majority of problems lie. Their printers rock, their high end desktops are a pleasure to work with, and their servers are rock solid.

Gateway

Anything that Gateway shipped is many times low end stuff that will barely last a year or two. My wife's old computer, because she wanted the warranty, WAS a gateway. In less than a year we needed a new LS-120 drive. A few months later, the CD-RW drive died and shortly later the DVD died. And about a year after replacing the LS-120, it died again. Just 3 years after buying it, the secondary IDE started to go on the motherboard and the Primary IDE would only make one item connected to it work. So, a few parts were salvageable, but gateway sold products are'nt the best.

Salvageable parts:
Video Card (STB 4400 wannabe)
Monitor 17"
Hard Drive (which I currently use)
PII 450 CPU with heat sink rivoted on.
200 Watt power supply
God is all knowing, I am just human.

PCChips mainboards, especially the ones with onboard everythin. What a waste of time

Winmodems - pain in the a***.

Compaqs - what is the deal with the bIOS on those thing?! Still can't understand why they insist on having a BIOS stored on the HDD!!

PCChips, Crystal sound, Cyrix (often found on PCChips boards, hehe), cheap modems, SIS video, the shiddy component the customer found cheap that needs two hours of ineffectual f#cking around to get going. Ho hum.

Make them pay. Double, if you can get away with it.

LS-120 drives!!! We have a box of about a dozen dead ones. They no longer make them cause the replacements of the replaced replacements were still failing...

A particular brand of motherboards made in Australia called 'Octek' - we replaced at least 40 - 50 of them. Has any other aussies out there had trouble with them?

Packard Bell PC's - 'nuff said.
