Angry Win2k stop statement after installing HP CD-Writer drivers

Just got through loading up a Dell Precision workstation with Win2k sp2, Office 2k, NAV 2001, a handful of other drivers and apps, and just before I get ready to ghost the machine I try to load drivers for an external HP CD-RW series 7200. Now I should have heeded the warning on the HP site that they are not responsible for the drivers but the provided a link to a third-party driver site from which I downloaded the drivers and installed. Rebooted the machine and got the following stop statement:

    ***STOP: 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0x8041D5F0, 0x00000000, 0x00000030) KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

    ***Address 8041D5F0 base at 80400000, DateStamp 3ad77869 - ntoskrnl.exe

Has anyone seen this before with the drivers for this CD-RW and Win2k? If so, I would greatly appreciate any ideas or suggestions you may have.

I have already tried booting to Safe Mode, but when I do, the mouse and keyboard stop working. Both are plugged into the correct PS2 ports and the KB works in DOS mode. Tried booting with the Last Known Good configuration, but I get the same stop statement.

    Here are the system specs:

    Dell Precision 610 workstation
    Dual P2-450's
    256MB ram
    9.1GB SCSI HDD
    32x generic cd-rom
    16MB video (MFG?)
HP CD-Writer plus 7200-e series (using OEM drivers)

    Red face

Update: Found KB articles for the stop statement and mouse/keyboard problems.

The CD-R driver problem is the Adaptec software is incompatible with Win2000. See <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q237/4/68.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=cd-r&rnk=1&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=WIN2000" target="_blank">this</a> article.

The problem of no mouse or keyboard in safe mode is a couple of corrupt reg keys as listed in <a href="http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q258/7/95.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=safe%20mode&rnk=15&src=DHCS_MSPS S_gn_SRCH&SPR=WIN2000" target="_blank">this</a> article.

Here is my new problem: I can't get to safe mode because keyboard and mouse don't work. To fix that problem I need to get to the registry, which I cannot due because of the stop statement.

    I am at a loss, here. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">
