    Post ASUS A7VE USB problem

    Hi, Just built a system for a customer using above mobo but can't get USB to work properly. Have tried two different printers, Epson 750 Photo USB (my own, known working ok) and a brand new Epson 790 Photo USB. Printer sometimes prints out the Test Page from printer properties General page and sometimes hangs. Always hangs after printing about an inch of any picture and whole system freezes for around a minute, then Epson Status Monitor reports communication error with printer. Both printers work perfectly on a Gigabyte GA7IXE4 motherboard and both work fine on the ASUS board is using Parallel connection. Am running v4.24 of Via 4in1 drivers and have just downloaded v4.32 to try out. Also tried Microsoft UHCD USB update for Win98SE but made no difference. USB controllers show no problems in device manager and printer is installed correctly. Any ideas?

    Cheers,

    Yep, thats on the mobo driver CD...tried with and without it, no difference. Have now tried clean install of W98se, newest 4in1 drivers, latest printer drivers, nothing else installed - still the same. Gonna RMA the board now....will NOT be buying another ASUS. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

    Thanks DAnimal, that site was just the ticket. Here's what it pulled up:

    Asus A7V
    --------

    BIOS settings for the A7V that effect USB performance:-

    PCI to DRAM Prefetch => Disabled
    System Performance => Normal
    PCI Master Read Caching => Disabled
    Delayed Transaction => Disabled

    After some playing about it seems that setting PCI Master Read Caching to Disabled has done the trick.

    Thanks again
