CDRW in DOS?
Is it possible? I have a customer who needs to run DOS Autocad, but wants to read and write to a Creative Labs CDRW. Is there a DOS program that will write to CDRW?
Thanks,
Charlie

Sucks, doesn't it? Two things I want more than ANYTHING...one, to be able to use a CDRW in DOS mode (handy for making recovery CDs, actually) and the second thing would be the ability to use my USB Quickdrive rig in DOS (Data recovery, though a CDRW would be good too....then again, now I may as well put the CDRW in the QuickDrive..heh). Any inspired programmers want to take a shot at writing a driver for USB, and a TSR/Driver that allows you to packet-write a CD in DOS?
Packet Write.....ok, you need to use a CDRW in Puire dos or in a DOS box in Windows? If it's a DOS box, and you use something like DirectCD, then you may just be able to treat the drive as a real writable drive letter...haven't tried that in a DOS app yet...

I haven't tried it but as a possible workaround for what he wants, have you considered this?
Setting up a 2 machine network, (since dos based programs usually need less resources an inexpensive older computer say 100mhz would suffice) with one using dos 6.22 and wfwg 3.11 to network with the newer maching running win98 and the cdrw. The dos 6.22 would probably give excelent speed for his dos based programs and he could use the cd recorder thru the network.
As I said, it's just a thought, but it would probably save a lot of problems and shouldn't be very expensive.

You can forget about long file names with any dos back up utility.

They shouldn't have any long filenames anyway if they are running DOS and a DOS-Based version of Autocad.
