    Post questions

Had a 486 with a quatum Lightning 350 MB HD with Win 95 on it , I purchased a used AMD K6-2 500 with a Soyo MOBO ,64mb ram ati Video card, JVC modem, Yamaha Sound and a 3.1 gig HD running WIN ME.

I tried to put the 486'2 HD into the new system to run Win 95 and format the ME drive but when I hook it up it will only let me have the Win 95 drive in the system on it's own. Not what I wanted but any way when I start up the system I get a windows protection error. I thought it was because of the old drivers on the HD so I booted into safe mode and removed everything but still get the same message .

Is there something I can do besides formating the disk to get it to run.

I want to keep the Win 95 drive with it's contents and format the other drive for extra space.
btw It says missing operating system when I install the drive on the same IDE as the CDROM and the other HD it only works by itself on a single IDE cable.
I hope that someday we will be able to put away our fears and prejudices and just laugh at people.

    Danimal,
Probably needs the AMD patch for win95, or try underclocking the cpu.

And how sure are you that this will work?

    Sorry Danimal,
    The link I've got is:
    <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/contents/WURecommended/S_WUServicePacks/AMDPatch/Default.asp" target="_blank">http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/contents/WURecommended/S_WUServicePacks/AMDPatch/Default.asp</a>

You can access the drive if you are able to underclock the chip below 350 mhz. Then you can easily apply the patch.

Here's another direction. You have two separate drives and they both have an active boot partition. There's a conflict! Easy fix, I'll let you figure it out.

Why underclock? it has no mention of this in those two links.

The patch is only needed on systems running w95 and K6 2 chips above 350mhz. If you underclock the chip you can usually access w95 without the patch, perhaps allowing you to d/l the patch, if you have no other way to access the net.
