system backup-the easy way?
well i finally got round to doing it.
i spend a lot of time running "stupid" software that mucks the computer up so i decided something had to be done>
i located a spare 2gig h/drive and armed with my copy of ghost 6 (which doesnt work in nt/xp/2k?) i decided on a "clone" job.
I cleaned my xp up and copied ghost onto a old 2g drive with 95 on ,,,i booted from it (command prompt) and typed ghost.
i created a ghost of xp under "fast option" and then rebooted to xp.
i created a 9x boot disk with the following:
autoexec.bat:
MSCDEX.EXE /D:mscd001
d:\
ghost
config:
device=oakcdrom.sys /D:mscd001
device=btdosm.sys
device=flashpt.sys
device=btcdrom.sys /D:mscd001
then i used Nero ,,,to create a "bootable" CD containing the boot section and *.gho (ghost file) plus ghost.exe.
when it was done it fitted on a single 80min cd.
I also loaded win2k and "tweaked it" then did the same ghost trick,,likewise 98. (have yet to try linux!!!).
now when i make a "bollocks" or get fed up with 2k or xp it takes only 8 minutes to reload any thing i want.
(remember to boot from cd)
ok so it took a couple of hours each to load and tweak, and u have to leave a lot of progs off (office/coral etc) but for 35p (uk) it is well worth it!

Sounds like an aweful lotta work. Ghost 7 has an option to ghost to a bootable CD with lpt and usb DOS driver support. Not sure if this exists in Ghost 6 as I upgraded from 5.x to 7.x.
A cool alternative, though, if you do not have access to Ghost 7.
