Well, how very Microsoft of you. Funny thing, I obtained my CNE in November, within a week my salary jumped an additional 25k.

About 2 years ago I worked at a shop as a PC Tech, but left the job because the money was short. I then got a job in the Circuit board industry but have been laid off twice(two different jobs)due to the downturn in business. So now that I have nothing to do with my days I am thinking about going and getting some certifications(A+,N+,Unix, and more). But what I would like to know is if I should start on a college CS degree first and then go after the certs, or get the certs, find a job, and then go back to college. I have about 1 1/2 years of job experience in the computer field and I really want to get back into the field. I am 22 years old and need to start making some real money. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi i am new to this forum, i most red the treads but this time i want to posting something.

I am a 19 years old boy from brazil.
I am living in atlanta for about 2 years now by myself 10 days ago my parents got here to study english and live with me for a while.
With 16 I started to work as a multi task help desk and network admin for a engeneering company
to earn 60 cents of a dollar an hour no i am not kidding after getting some experience i moved to mercedes-benz as a help desk, but after 3 days i was doing the work of a network administrator and getting pay 340 USD a month yes it is miserable.
After 1 year i decided to come to college in USA, well I went to the house of a lady i knew in bainbridge, ga. Without a visa, social security and being a foringr i could not work anywhere. While studyng english I volunteer as a help desk and network administrator at bainbridge college, they could not pay me, because i had no documents.
Well after a while i got in at clayton state college in atlanta so i moved there, with a job at the faculty lab as an assistant for comptuers doing multimedia and hardware work. For some reason my documents never got ready and not even my dad could support me anymore. I worked about 3 months in the college, failed all my classes, and moved out of campus to live with a brazilian guy. That guy seemed nice at first but all he wanted is to share teh rent he is not a good person at all. I went to brazil and got my papaers ready finnaly came back after a month, and went to the school. Well the lady thought i had left for good and i hired someone else to my spot, btw the pay was 7/hour. At least in mid february they paid me for 40 hours of work and i had 80, but the papers were lost. By taht time i had no money, not even for food, dont fell bad i learned how hard life is. With 1200 to recieve i got 940 because os the taxes. I bought a 89 regency for 700 and moved to marietta, i had to stop school cause i had no money and lost my instate tuition due the failing of too many classes.
While all that was going on i was doing some freelance work but all people did was take advantege of my situation. I charged 50 dollars to do a nice webpage, the guy was suppose to pay 300 after it was done but he never did.And thing like that keept happening.
By may of 2001, someone referred me to a company called iic, that is what i work for now i get paid 20/hour fo rme it is great but i do everything.
program, security.network, hardware, software. It is not whort anymore so i am looking for a change i also have no benefits, cause they pay a company that pays me under the table free of tax.
Weel i had to tell my history, and ask for advice
i am oaying for my college right now about 1k each class i take, i cant afford to apy more then 1 class each 2 months. Should i wait a job that pay for my education? or start my own with my dad?

    thanks for the advices

Plumbing, yeah thats the ticket, plumbing!!

I've been in this business for long time, and because of experience I make a living at it.
But unless your a cutting edge programmer right now, this industry is so saturated with so called TECHS that its pretty hard for anybody just starting out to make anything at it. Seems like everybody has a TECH in the family now!

If I were just starting out I would pick another business. Unless you REALLY love working with IT for long hours, and short pay. Or unless your really willing to be unethical about it, it's pretty hard to make a great living in this business.

    LOL <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I agree although field techs seem to be in demand in my area, I guess no one wants to brave the cold. LOL
