The way to back up Express is as follows:

    1. To back up Address book copy all files in - C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

    2. To backup all messages copy all files in - C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities

Or do a search for *.dbx and *.wab and just copy thoses. Either way works fine.

Express Backup will create a single, compressed files for Outlook files. I use it to move settings, mail and address book to my latest machines. Works great!
