[RESOLVED] Disk Defrag
Does anyone know why disk defrag would lockup Win 98 after you select the drive. I already deleted the applog directory and ran disk cleanup.
Please help

if that doesn't work, try going into safe mode, run scandisk and defrag there....

disable your sceen saver, and any program running in the back ground safe mode is a good idea. if this all fails ghost info to another drive and see if you can do a defrag there if that works than i would say you have a bad drive

Have you run a virus scan? I ran into a machine last week that had a virus that caused this. Do a search for winit.exe or winnit.exe something like that anyway. If defrag locks up instantly this may be your problem.

Although norton does have quite a bit of bloatware not to mention the ability to show you windows problems that never came up before, the speed disk is truly useful, i would never go back to the win98 defrag util.

One thing I have seen cause this is McAfee Virus Scan. I forget which version off hand, but it's a know issue with McAfee, they should have info on it. If that particular version of McAfee is installed, Defrag and Scandisk will refuse to run.
Somebody set up us the GPF!

I agree with Jayhawk88, we see this Mcafee 4.5 all the time. You can either right click on the Mcafee shield on the task bar then select exit or just use "Safe Mode".
