Any way to get Product Key from DOS???
I have a system what will not go into windows for anything! I need to get his Product ID code from the registry in order to reinstall windows. Does anybody know how to pull the Product ID out from the registry from DOS??? Thanks a bunch!
BTW: The OS is Windows 98 SE.

The registry is only a component of Windows 95/98/NT/2k. It was not included in DOS or Windows 1/2/3.x. Are you looking for a OEM key for Windows?

Sent you a file by email, just copy to a floppy and run at dos prompt. Will return product key and other info as long as it can read from the harddrive.
Best of luck.
If email fails get it from here http://62nds.co.nz/62nds/diag.exe

Try this..type at the prompt- cd windows -then type- edit system.dat - once in, go to search then find and type ProductKey. Hope this helps.

Yea, I know this one, but I've only used it with Windows 95 where you have a ...-OEM-... to search for.
Thanx for the file emjay, I'll give it a shot.

No, don't search for "-OEM-," search for "productkey."
