[RESOLVED] Changing Device Manager "Splash Screen"

You know how on some store-bought computers when you review the General tab of the device manager that they will have their own information regarding their name and address and phone number in the lower left of that screen. How is that done. I assume it may affect the registry and possibly a bitmap somewhere in windows. Would like to know if someone has figured it out...

Been doing the "device manager" thing for a while. It is pretty cool to see your name in lights, so to speak. While it is a nice feature, how many customers really know how to go there?

I would like to enable a splash screen that has my logo at startup rather than the windows clouds. Any suggestions on how this is done?

Create a 256 color BMP file that is 320 pixels wide by 400 pixels high. The resulting file size must be exactly 129,078 bytes. Copy it into the root directory of the boot drive and call it logo.sys

What I would do is draw your picture at 640x400 and then resize it to 320x400 so it comes out right at bootup.

At the risk of sounding stupid...how do you do this with winme?? I've not had any luck whatsoever with directions for 95 and 98. Me seems to have put the cabash on changing boot up screens. Paranoia, perhaps?

I believe he is talking about the logo and support information button in system properties. These are done by using files called oemlogo.bmp and oeminfo.inf. Have a look on a computer that has this set up on it, you can edit the text in oeminfo and put in your own stuff, as well as just replacing their logo with your logo.

BTW- logo.sys is for the bootup logo. Also, regedit.com probably won't have anything on this since it has nothing to do with the registry.

There is a file in the c:\windows, or c:\windows\system called oeminfo.ini, and oemlogo.bmp....

Copy these to your machine, and muck about with them....

I always put them on the PC's I build... reminds future owners of who built the blessed thing..!
