    Question win98se shutdown problems

    ok my computer is running win2k server
    and win98se i have installed the shutdown patch which did not help if you go to shutdown or restart you get the win98 shutdown screen and that's all ok here's my hardware list
    two p3-933eb intel chips
    two maxtor ata100 7200rpm drives
    one 50x cd drive
    one 8x 8x 24x cdrw mitisumi
    32meg geforce2 video card
    sound blasterlive
    isdn extranal modem by 3-com
    256k micron memory
    300 watt power supply
    msi dual procressor board with ata100 built on
    that's what i can think of right now
    it is a dual boot computer it runs
    windows2000 server
    windows 98se

    Really need more info, ie. hardware etc. You can try to fiddle with the power management, I have seen alot of similar problems linked to power management settings and/or power management drivers in Win98se.

    Try reverting to VGA display adapter and reinstall the driver.

    Try to install Intel piix bridge fix.

    was it like this from the start, or is it something new ?

    whole computer is new this problem started after the second boot of win98se

    try this one :

    open regedit:

    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\control\Shutdown\Fas tReboot
    and change the value to either "0" or "1"

    ok went to regedit
    hklm\system\currentcontrolset\control\SHUTDOWN\fas treboot
    but shutdown is not there help
    this is a dual boot computer with win2k and 98se if that makes a diff.

    Open Device Manager
    Under System Devices, double click on Plug n Play BIOS.
    Under settings tick disable NVRAM updates.
    Restart the computer (it may hang on Windows is shutting down)
    After restarting, try shutting down again and it should work.

    thanks but win98 still does not want to shut down guess i'll wipe out 98 and install me (yuck) any tips on how to do this on a dual boot computer will be nice thank you

    sorry the Key name is
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\control\Shutdown\

    the string is
    FastReboot

    if you don't have it - create it and change it's value to "0"
