Try doing a 'save as' operation. Word and Excel save all changes in each doc/xls. If the file has been edited many times it can get very large and who knows what else. If you open the document and resave it using 'save as' all the histories are dumped and you have a clean-compact file again.

Is it only on the one doc.? Is there marcos running in this doc? could it be infected and/or corrupted?

OK here's the situation. When the doc is opened it sucks up between 20-30% sys resource automaticaly (the files are less than 2 meg) and paging through eats up more resources. Also once the doc is closed only get back 20% of resources consumed. Only a few files are doing it they have different image file architecture embeded in them. Checked no macro no virri.

Good point, Grover. It might be a good idea to check for macro activity, intentional or otherwise.

we have this screen print app. here that eats resources whever it's used and does not give them back. the only way to restore teh resources is to re-boot. your problem almost sounds like the images on these pages are really huge and using some sort of graphical viewer that is stealing resources and not returning them. sorry. not really help, but just my input. g'luck brother
