virus or motherboard

basic windows based pc used as a workstation. starts to be slow in boot but no real problem. then freezes / locks in a marquee screen saver.

customer resets, scandisk get to 80% then screen shows a grey box with nothing hbut symbols in.

they loook like backs of playign cards,fronts of card dollar signs, general ascii characters, cursor icons and other strange symbols.

if you skip scandisk system boots fine etc.
i'm guesing either a virus or the board is going. has anyone seen a virus that like this??

dont sound like a mainboard to me at least with that info you just gave sounds like your hard drive. do a virus scan and then i would replace the drive
