Post Boot Problems --- Please Help!!!

    Hardware Configuration:
    ABIT KT7A Motherboard
    (3) 256MB PC133
    AMD ATHLON THUNDERBIRD 1.33 GHTZ
    3DFX VOODOO 5 64MB VIDEO CARD
IBM DESKSTAR 75GXP 60 GB HARD DRIVE
    TEAC 10/12/32 CDRW
    PIONEER 16X DVD
    USR 56K PCI MODEM
    SOUNDBLASTER PCI 512 SOUND CARD

Ok guys, here's the scenario. After formatting the hard drive and installing Millenium, the system will not fully initialize. I get up to where it would start recognizing the hardware, then it freezes. I've tried a bootlog, no hints there. I can get fully into Safe Mode. Of course in Safe, I have ne CDRom drives. Once in Safe mode, the device manager reports a PCI input controller under other devices. Anyone seen that one before?
I've tried reformatting the drive and reinstalling, same problem. I've even tried reformatting the drive and installing 98SE instead. No help there either. Same symptoms. What am I missing???

Thanks in advance, I know someone out there has the answer.

hmmm. sounds a lot like a problem I had on a load one time. Chipset drivers fixed it up. (I had never even heard of chipset drivers until that one...) Check the MoBo page and see if there are any updates. (Chipset, BIOS, etc.)

    Happy troubleshooting.

I would try the usual. Remove all adapters, use a simple pci slot video card and try again. You may have to format and reload the OS. At least you will remove all possibilities other than the mobo.

If you are successful, then start with one adapter at a time.

    Cool

Try removing the pci device in safe mode, let it set back up.Or try removing all system devices and letting it setup again. If not try updating bios

If your machine is locking during a install then more then likely you have one of two problems...1) over heating issues on the CPU or Bad RAM issues...this is a tip that sounds weird but it works take out the RAM shake it then ground all the pins onto the case then re insert it...sometimes there's a static chrage on the ram itself...sound to me like a over heating issue...

I was having that same problem with the same MB,.. i took the voodoo card out of the equation and it booted up just fine with a gEforce2, dunno but i heard a rumor that the voodoo cards have those problems with some k7 MB's
Some people say i am indecisive, but i dont think i am, but sometimes i do.
