Thumbs down Intel laptop PJQ P233 CPU for Compaq 1210

Thumbs down for Compaq! About 2 yrs. ago I bought a Presario 1210 laptop that has an Intel P150 CPU in it. It was a great price at the time and said in a sticker right on the top of the laptop that the CPU was upgradable. Sure enough, when I contacted Compaq this Spring, there were 3 upgrades for the CPU: P180, P200 and P233. Here's the drub - The P200 is $220Cdn, but the P233 is $1089 (minimun that I've found) so far!!!
When I had an authorized Compaq service centre contact Compaq about the price discrepancy, they blatently said that, sure, they don't WANT people to upgrade - they want them to buy NEW laptops etc. Well, we can sympathize with their lagging cash flow can't we? But - hey - get a life! Over a $1000 difference between the CPU's for a 33MHz increase in speed? And not even and PII or PIII? What does everyone else think about this?

Its a shame that all the larger companies are doing this, not only with Laptops but also their propriatary boxes, such as those from Compaq, HP, Dell etc. The machiens although state "upgradable" isnt even worth the effort enquiring about an upgrade. At least you can clear stear of these boxes and build your own, but unfortunately laptops are all the same, and manufacturers feel they can charge what they like since it is a specialist job, with specialist parts etc. I wonder if you could get the 200mhz CPU for the laptop and overclock it, Spose it wouldnt be recommended due to heat but hey, you'll save $800 or so.
