Question How can you change the User Name in Office 97\2000 splash screen?

    Here's a "toughie"......

How do you change the User & Company Name in the splash screen that appears when you launch Office 97, or 2000 applications?

I know how to change it in the registry for the operating system itself, either by directly editing it, or using a registry front-end tool like WinChanger (Great tool, by the way! http://www.pbnsoft.com/ )

But I have searched the registry for EVERY instance of the current Registered User Name & NONE of them affect the splash screen. I'm thinking it must be a binary value, or perhaps an entry in an INI file somewhere.

I've searched TechNet & the MS KnowledgeBase to no avail.

    I have already un-installed & re-installed it. No help.

One of our users gives PowerPoint presentations on a big screen. Who ever installed Office 2000 on her laptop misspelled our Company Name! How embarrassing! Wasn't me, thank God!

    Appreciate everybody's help on this.

In PowerPoint go to the Tools, Options menu. Then the general tab.

In Word, Tools, Options, User Info.

    In Excel, Tools Options, General.

    In Publisher,Edit, Personal Info.

I don't think that will work, that only changes the editor name. What he wants to change is the name of the person the software is registered to.

There's 2 ways: Easy way goto options/user info. Hard way go into DOS and open up the system.dat file, search for RegName and change it there.

Office 2000 behaves slightly different from 97.

With Office 2000 (SR1 & above)you should be able to change the following in the registry to make it work:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall

Identify the correct GUID for Office 2000

Rename the ProductID string value to OLDProductID

The next time you start any Office program, it should prompt you for the USER Information (including the CD Key).

I am not 100% sure this will work, I can not try this unitl I get home this evening. I only have Office 97 at this office.

    Hope this helps.
