    Thumbs down rework from questionable mistakes...

    Doing rework now on some simple stuff that was installed by another tech at my bench. check the system specs: p pro 200mhz. check the requirements of the peripheral(a burner)... pII 400. This unit came back twice and twice it left saying no probs to be returned the next day. in 30 secs i was able to determine it wouldn't work. I asked who the tech was that did the install and the first reinstall and was upset to hear it's someone i like(not that i dislike many people). what do you think i should say to who?(if anything) should i let it go and pay closer attention to her skills? or should i tell a manager that she may be incompetent? Maybe it was a brain malfunction(i have them too). any help with this team?

    It all depends on how you operate I suppose. Here we have ppl that do the work then we have ppl that will do the final check before the customer gets the system. If there is a problem even though it was the person that did the works fault it is the final QA/QC person that gets the blame. If you do not operate this way then I would say tell a manager of this persons incompetance. I know how you feel, I was working with another tech once that was supposed to know a lot but did not even know what a service pack was on NT4 (unreal) But I found out later this person got hired because she wore skimpy clothes and shorts all the time.

    It depend.
    Is she a new worker ?
    Is this the first time ?
    she might have over looked on somthing.
    If it's not the first time, I say tell the boss.

    I'd have to agree in this case. I don't know what it is like were you live but if she's female and you're male and you say something to her first, it can be taken or turned into a sexual harassment/discrimination thing. I'd talk to a supervisor. I don't know if I'd use the word incompetent quite yet unless this has happened alot. ( like you said maybe she had a brain freeze or had something on her mind. ) Good Luck

    I would check in from time to time, if she continues to have problems, then i would start to worry. I'm only a student and have made a few mistakes myself, such as changing a FDD testing it, it worked fine then the guy brought it back next day..apparantly his FDD Controller was shot..i never thought to test it "DUH" so EVERYBODY makes em once and a while..if its a constant thing..then theres a prob

    Well, if you're in any kind of supervisory position (or if you're the senior in your working group) then I would speak to her directly, being firm but courteous, and tell her that she needs to check her work better in the future, as mistakes like this one cannot be made regularly, especially a second time.

    If you're not in any kind of position of authority, I wouldn't mention it directly, as that leads to things like have been mentioned, Sexual Harassment and such. I would let a first offense go, thereafter I would report it, as it makes the whole team look bad, and could cause others to lose their jobs, etc. I don't like to rat people out for little things, but when it comes down to something that even remotely might come back on me, I have learned to make the first step, and not let management take that step for me.
