    Red face DVD Video help

Ok, this is coming third party, so I'll try to explain as much as I can....

I have a buddy who is trying to record his VHS tapes to his Computer, and then burn them to a DVD so he can watch them on his DVD player that is connected to his TV. He can copy from the VHS fine, and burn to a DVD fine, but cannot play on his DVD player for his TV. Breakdown of equipment and software:

Marantz DVD Player (Top of the Line)
    ATI 8500 AIW Vid Card
Nero 5.5 & Gear Pro 6.0 (for burning)
    Power DVD (viewing on PC)

He is burning the video as an ISO/UDF format, but I think the DVD player doesn't recognize that format. I think he needs to burn using an MPEG2 format....am I correct. Any help or suggestions would be helpful Thanks!!

sorry , just checkin on the format vcd/dvd (a lot of people confuse it) ,,,still say its the player!

can u try it on another?

in uk , they have clamped down on copying ,,, most new cd players wont play copies , 99% of dvd players won,t play vcd (even tho it says so on the box!! ,,,,i meen u can,t get "legal" vcds over here so how can u complain "the player won,t play my pireted copy of XXXXX"

has he EVER played copied disks?

maybe the player does,nt like the color (i,m not being funny or predgudist) of the disks try a different brand?

    good luck freddy

Just looking for some advice. Thanks freddy for the help! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

you never mentioned what brand dvd writer he's using. (I assume he's trying this on a dvd writer and not a cd writer else you wouldn't have posted this)

Its probably just that his dvd player hooked up to the tv dosn't support burnt dvd's. its a pretty common problem. My Toshiba dvd player says it will play svcd's, cdr and cdrw disks, but I have never been able to get it to play any of the 3 formats.

I dont know much about this subject, but I would put my bet on the format needs to be mpeg2 or something similar.
