WinNT Server / 10.2 gig IDE HD
Is there a limitation as to how large an IDE drive one can install WinNT Server on?
I cannot successfully install it on a brand new Maxtor 10.2 gig IDE, but have no problems with the 3.2 gig Western Digital. Have tried formatting with FAT, as well as NTFS (preferred), but to no avail.

To my knowledge there are no limitations on drive size within the OS itself. Since you didn't specify what generation of system board you have, I can only guess that the bios tops out at 8.4gb. Check it out. If this is the case, you'll need drive overlay software to get the xtra 2+gb.

The way I understand it NT 4.0 will only do 4.3 gigs, you will have to make multi partions. Keystone

I just added a 18gig Ibm ultra scsi drive
to a machine over the weekend, used NFTS
and it see 17.5gigs under the harddrive
properties, It was not the lead drive though
maybe that could had something to with, I would look into the bios on the mb, how much shows when you auto detect the drive ?

As with most things NT - service pack!
SP4 removes a limit to 8.4GB on IDE drives.
NT can deal with something like Terrabyte drives, but MS forgot big IDEs!

If you are using intel's older PIIXIDE drivers, they will only support 8gigs or less. I would suggest installing the latest service pack and using ATAPI instead(remember to turn busmastering on afterwards).
