Best Firewall Software?
Ok People I know this is going to be an “in my opinion” one and I don’t want to start any fights, but what do you consider to be the best Firewall software for a small network (9x and 2k) on a cable connection?
Thanks

Go read the articles on DDOS at www.grc.com before you choose one.
In short, it says Black Ice is not worth it and ZoneAlarm is.
Having said that, I do know the latest version of ZoneAlarm is a little bit buggy.

OK MacGyver go retrieve your dummy <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0"> I asked for people’s opinion on this subject, thanks for taking the time to list the pervious entries, I had previously read most of them and of the 6:
1, “I'm looking for a good cheap firewall for personal use on win 98se and win2k for around $50.00” Not what I asked
2, (20-150 user NT NW)? Not what I asked
3,4,5 and 6, Posts from March, February, January and Last June! That’s a lot of time for people to form/change opinions!
All I asked was for people’s opinions on the best current small network firewall.
Thanks again for the time taken to reply MacGyver but the previous posts, in my opinion, were out of date or asking a different question.

WC, black ice works on the way in. The reason it failed in the tests that Mr. Gibson did in his DDOS article is because the malicious code was already on the computer. So, in retrospect, the tests were somewhat biased toward ZA. In previous tests, ZA performed very well and Black Ice had to be updated to be effective again. Black ice is a decent program, and so is Zone Alarm.
In my opinion, use zone alarm because it is free and it is effective.
God is all knowing, I am just human.
