Definetly agreed... some avatars (and signatures) are bigger than any message in the posts...
but as proposal: condors condor should stay this big... he needs the place for his extensive detailed tech-descriptions

The avatars have little to do with the page loading. Even at work with a 3 megabit DSL connection, the forums can be slow at times for me. The slowness for me occurs between the time I click on a link and the time the page actually starts loading. The actual loading of the page is relatively fast, and if you visit the forums often enough, most of the avatars, smilies, etc, should be in your browser's cache.

This is the same with me. I've got DSL too. the other spot the forums really drag for me is between hittting the reply button and returning to the previous topic.
I thought it was just me but obviously not.

I don't really think it matters whether you have a 99999mbps connection, the servers are just slow.
I do have an idea...users could set an option in their UBB control panel to display images or not. This would be a lot better for dial-up users.
Wind Rivers Resort...relax, have a drink, get help with your computer.

I agree - the server is so slow sometimes I think it's using dial-up
nothing to do about it - been a problem in WD since day 1..
for every server scott adds the number of useres doubles...

The site loads just as fast at home on 56k as it does at work on a two meg pipe for me.
I'm sure if the avatars were a problem Scot would disable them. My avatar is only 8k, but if Scot thinks it will make a difference I am more than willing to change it.

My animated avatar is only 22K. I don't think that would affect load time that much. JvaGuy designed the avatar so it would be smaller than the original.
