Resolved [RESOLVED] A Word Of Caution

I really like the bulk of the updates. This is getting to be one good looking place. I am proud to consider myself a Windrivers addict.

However, you need to be carefull how much "eyecandy" you add,. not everyone has a DSL, Cable or faster connection,. and all the graphics need to be downloaded to display. That can be quite time consuming on a slower modem connection. This is not a complaint or 'bitch' post, I have DSL so it really makes no difference to me, but it is something you may want to keep in mind.

Nah, I was just testing things out on a 56K earlier this morning, and it still loads decently. But still, that is good advice, CoreLogic. Adding much more at this point would probably be overkill.

im on 56k and eyecandy is currently at a fine level, but every now and then the site just slows right down, as in takes a minute to load a page. its not my connection, so i think it may be a problem with the server. im not really complaining, i know how busy the guy who runs this must be and im sure he'll get round to it eventually, its just an obsevation.

I connect only at around 32K, and everything loads quickly once it gets around to it. However, it seems like the servers are very slow to respond. It'll take 1-3 minutes for them to respond, then the page loads within seconds.

Yeah, I will agree that the server is a little slow to respond, on ANY connecton. I have 768K DSL at home and a T3 equivalent at work...

For the last few days my 56k modem at home has been just as fast as the 2meg pipe at work.

The candy is nice, apart from the shadow thing, but I'm sure that will be fixed. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
If it aint broke, don't fix it....... If it's broke, buy a new one

Actually your right there cobra - Dialup, if u get a decent provider, isnt actually too bad for the web surfing (as they ARE what the web is designed for). Id say most things load about the same speed, and for chat they are perfect, plus from the sounds of it, my dialup drops out less than other ppls cable....

    Thats said though, i still cant wait till i get cable, so i can watch streaming video...mmmmmmm <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

These "Enhancements" don't really take up that much space, just a little more code in the HTML, thats all, not graphics or anything, and since HTML is text, it won't be way too big.
In fact, this page, HTML alone is only 62K big, which means the HTML itself will download in about 2 seconds on a 56K connection.

good point.... and if it loads slowly its probably just because the server has been slow lately because of the updates

Yeah, provided that you can afford the modem and the connection, plus the ISP. <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">
