abit ab-tx5 won't take ram
Hello,
I'm working on some more socket 7s. I put a 128 pc100 dimm in a ab-px5 and it took it with no problem. I then tried to put another 128 pc100 dimm in a ab-tx5 (extremely similar.. i downloaded the manual and it covers both boards plus the ax5) and when i booted it... it didn't do anything but beep at me (long single consistent beeps). I then put the two 32meg dimms back in there and it booted fine.
The board should hold 256 according to the manual. Any ideas?
Thanks

Could be the ram is double sided and the RAM Slots on the motherboard only accept single sided..

negative... here is what the manual says:
Support possible for mixed use of single density and double density modules.
This is a single sided dimm anyway.

Are the ram modules of the same brand?

It's been my experience, mainly with Compaq, that companies such as these have proprietary peripherals, ram included. Ditch the Gateway memory and fork out for some new ram, if you want get the same brand if you get more than one dimm..

TX chipset motherboard? I'm not sure, is it worth or not to upgrade the RAM. PC with TX chipset works slower with more than 64Mb of RAM installed because memory above 64M won't be cashed. It's well-known Intel's bug.
So,I would rather suggest to spend money on motherboard's upgrade.
