V. 2.0 * Lighted Fan Mod * V. 2.0
Well, here's the new revision. The first one was quite sloppy just because I was wanting to get it finished and was being lazy about a couple of things. To begin, the circuit board is much smaller and sets diagonally. The helps reduced restricted air flow and the circuit board is a lot more stable. Second, the fiber does not bend up in the middle of the fan, rather just sits flat. This helps keep the fan stable and is much more secure with the glue. The original plan called for different colored LEDs but the brightness of the blue washed the others out. No longer is there a need for it to catch each LED individually. Now, the fiber absorbs the light just fine without having to jet out from the back of the fan. All in all, it is a much cleaner design and doesn't waist so much PCB. This is Milenko's fan which will be sent out to you shortly buddy. Just let me know when you're ready. Feel free to ask if anyone else is looking for one.
By the way, I got off my lazy butt and decided to put the pictures on an in house html page. It should be a lot easier to view but you may see some popups. (None adult) Sorry about that but I can't help it.

so how you doin this?
Is there fiber in the fan blades, then led lights on the baord pointing down wards into the fiber, so whent he fiber spins it picks up the light from the hanging led light?
hehe my little fast mspaint sketch:

There are 3 fins that have a hole drilled through them. A piece of fiber with a 90 degree bend in it, is inserted into each hole and the fiber is routed to the center of the fan where it is glued down. The LEDs rest directly above the space in the center of where this fiber meets and that is where the light is drawn in from.

I buy mine from an inhouse vendor through my company. Unfortunately, I'm not really allowed to give out the information as he does not sell to the general public. I bend it very slowly and carefully (with no heat) with a leatherman and some napkins.

I need to read up a little on electronics before I try anything like this. I think this summer, once I have some money, I may play around a little.

You'd be looking for endglow (not sideglow) unjacketed fiber.

Hey Daemon! Check this site out.
<a href="http://www.fiberopticproducts.com/" target="_blank">http://www.fiberopticproducts.com/</a>
Look under the Unjacketed Fiber section. They had the 3mm fiber purchased by the foot. I don't know how they are on price, but they seemed to have a good selection of products.
