Exclamation Issues With PC, Can Your Help?

    PC Specs:

    AZ11 FIC Mboard
    AMD T-Bird 1ghz
    256 Generic Ram
    Geforce2 MX
    SB Live! x-Gamer 5.1
    Netgear 10/100 Ethernet Card

Problem : Random Freezing During Windows, CONSTANT Freezing During Games. When i run DXDIAG and run a Direct Draw or Direct 3d Test it sometimes works fine, and other times i get a blue screen VXD error or a freeze/system crash. Also sometimes when i boot to windows it freezes right off. And I get many Illegal Operations, and "Explorer has caused an error in Kernel386.dll/DDraw.Dll/NVdisp.drv"

    Things i have tried-

    - 1st i reformatted and re-installed WinMe, got the same problems. (Even Tried Other Harddrives)
    - 2nd i tried new video card and ram, same issues. (Re-formatted and Installed Using Them) Also i did try all latest drivers for all hardware, latest bios as well.
    - 3rd i tried taking out all hardware but video card and cdrom and a drive.
    - 4th i tried adding many fans
    - 5th i tried Win98SE and Win2kPro
    - 6th i have tried moving card order from
    - 7th I Tried the Newest VIA 4in1

    AGP - Geforce 2 MX
    PCI 1 - SB Live X-gamer
    PCI 2 - Modem
    PCI 3 - Ethernet Card
    PCI 4 - None
    PCI 5 - None
    to

    AGP - Same
    PCI 1 - none
    PCI 2 - Modem
    PCI 3 - SV live
    PCI 4 - Ethernet Card
    PCI 5 - None

    I have yet to try-
    A new Mboard
    A New Proccessor
    A New Power Supply
    New Hardware Order
    IRQ Reassignments again
    New T-Bird Fan

What should i do now guys? I'm going to borrow another PC and use it for gaming until i get this issue resolved. I seriously think it is my Mboard tho, because i tested all other hard ware on friend's PC's and they ran great, ram and video card especially.

It is possible that the issue is with the mobo itself. Where I work at we stopped using the az11 because of instability issues in both winme and win98se. Try something like an asus or a microstar motherboard, both seem incredibly reliable and all have ata 100 ide onboard too!

ABIT KT7 (any version) and ASUS A7V are my faves.

I would try a 300w or better power supply.

And have you tried DirectX 8? You mention that you tried updated drivers, however I didn't see directx in your list.

What are the specs on your friend's computer you used to test your hardware? Did it have a t-bird chip? Sounds like a memory problem to me.

Disable AGP4X in the BIOS. Set AGP Driving Force to EA (if available in BIOS). Advisably get a bigger PSU and if possible Major brand Memory.

Buy only AMD recommended Heatsink & Fans and also check out the AMD Athlon cooling recommendations on the AMD site.

What is a heatsink, is it like a fan?

A fan will usually be on the heatsink. A heatsink is a big metal thing that sits on the procesor. The purpose is to obsorb the heat into a piece of metal that has a large surface area so more surface can be cooled at one time.

Intel has just as many problems if not more I think. I've had a chance to try both for gaming and internet and other uses and amd is simply faster and more powerful.

It is not the CPU's that have the problems but the Motherboard chipsets.
