Which one should I choose?
Hi! I am thinking of getting a system upgrade and I wanted to know if there is a lor of notable differance when using Dual core & Quad core processors.
I mean I have an Intel dual core laptop which I cannot tell much differance with so is a quad core really much differant to a dual core?
The 2 particualar models I was looking at are the 4400+ Dual core and the 4800+ quad core processors.
Anyone had any experiance with the new quad cores?
Thanks

I'm starting to see new programs comming out that are multithreaded. however they are not well programmed, meaning, they make the assumption of dual core rather then quad core.
Think on it this way. If you can bog down a dual-core, then go for the quad core processor. If you can't bog it down, spend the money on a faster dual-core or better video card.

Think you are somewhat confused on your numbers there
Those I believe are AMD and they are not quad core, only dual core
The only quad core to date is in the Barcelona Opteron processor.

This is what I thought but the guy at the shop I went to said the 4900+ he had was a dual core.
I didn't really look into it I just asked what he's got so he might have been wrong.

Quad will spank Duel at floating point calculations. If you are going to go quad, for now stay away from AMD, for now. So unless you a are a serious gamer or are into big time video editing take the advice of Matridom.
