Angry Duron Power Supply

Im thinking of builiding a new system with a Duron 850 CPU and GIGABYTE GA-71XE4 motherboard.
Will I need a 300W PSU or will a standard 250W work?
Thanks,

I'm running the same board with a Duron 800 and a 300watt PSU, 250 just doesnt cut it. I've seen lots of people have probs because they havent upgraded the PSU when fitting an Athlon or Duron chip, go for a 300watt - you'll not regret it.

A 250 is OK, just pick one from the AMD-approved list. I use Aopen. Got a 1ghz T-bird on a 250w p/s, run great!

Thumbs up

Also recommend that you go with a 300 Watt Power Supp;y.
1.) All Power Supply outputs are not the same, The Power Supply may be rated at 250 but is only 230 Watt Output.
For more info on this topic check I have chaned many home built sytems with a 250 Watt Supply.

I disagree! A 250 MIGHT do the job in SOME instances, but it has been my experience that the 300 is far less problematic. Just because it worked for 1 guy doesn't mean it is wise! I would NEVER run a 1g tbird on a 250!! wOw!

For the sake of a few extra pounds (dollars, whatever) get one on the list - I use a 300W Macron.

You can always stick the old one on ebay.
