AMD 700-cheap MoBo
I have an Athalon 700 cpu setting here doing nothing. Since my daughter is a game junkie I thought I would put it too use. What is a good MoBo for the least amout of money to use. Dont want to spend a great amount as I am already PC poor. We only have 6 in the house and they are all intel. She has a Intel 300 at the moment so I figure the 700 will be good enough for a while. She is only 11. Any help would be good. Thanks

i think you probably need a slot A motherboard as i don't think athlon 700 mhz cpus come in socket a. i know money is an issue, but i would stay away from the PC Chips-Amptron boards. they are a lot cheaper than other boards, but they are a pain in the a**. epox, msi, and fic make some good lower cost boards.

Thanks for the feed back. The only thing I use PC-chips MoBos for is target practice. Yeah it is a Slot. Funny I have only had one experience with ECS P4 and I thought th board performed good. Anyway I will check the net and see what I can find. She will be in hog heaven if she has a faster cpu than her brother. He he. He will probaly start snivelling. Thanks

i have built 3 almost identical systems with the ECS K7S5A or whatever it is for friends and have had nothing but problems out of 2 of em. but i built one P4 with the ECS board and it was rock solid stable. but i don't think its worth the risk of a quirky system.

can't comment on quality, but I have gotten lower cost boards from them in the past without any trouble. I shop there quite a bit
