Duel XP on a Tiger...
I'm going to be building a system in a few months, I'm seriously considering the Tyan Tiger MP board. This is a duel processor board for the AMD AthlonMP.
My question is do you have to fit the MP chips or can you get away with any Athlon CPU?
Because a par of AthlonXP 1900 would be nice, you know in the way a Ferrari would be nice...

I'm not sure about the TigerMP, but the ThunderK7, which is the big brother to the Tiger, has problems using two XP 1900+ CPU's. It will generally post and then crash when trying to boot the OS. At least with 2K server or NT4 Server anyway. I've tried the latest BIOS update with no luck.
My brain went into standby mode and I can't get it to wake up, is there a BIOS patch for this?

I would imagine if the Thunder wont then the Tiger wont either, it a shame it would have been nice...
I'm not building my system until April (that's when I get my redundancy money from Panasonic)hopefully by then there will be more options.

Several vendors such as Gigabyte, Asus and MSI are all working on boards based on the AMD MPX chipset. I believe they should be out Q1 2002. For more info, check out this link to Gigabyte's site.

Maximum pc says that the tyan dual motherboards, have to use athlon mp processors, because no other athlon processors are capable of multi processing.
Ok brain you don't want to do this , and I don't want to do this, so let's just get it done, and I'll go back to drowning you with beer.

For an update on XP CPU's on 760MP(X) mainboards, I caught this posting over at 2cpu.com, looks like AMD will not be allowing multiple XP's or Durons on the 760MPX chipset based boards. Check it out more here.

You can dual any Athlon or Duron based on the Palomino core. The Morgan Durons are the Palomino based cores. Can't remember what speed the Morgans started at though. Thats with the current mobos though. Don't know about the new stuff coming out.
