Question Intel Processor advice.

Hello all:

As some may know I'm upgrading my niece's Gateway Astro (yes I found out it can be done). I've upgrade the memory to 128 meg of Micron PC100 SDRAM. Now I'm ready to upgrade the Celeron 400. The Intel 810 will support either PIII or Celeron. She only has about $50 (I'll pony up some). I'm thinking Celeron 700 or maybe a lower end PIII (450-600 range). Any suggestions?

i would think a PIII 550 or 600 would out perform a celeron 700. if it was me, i would go with a PIII. www.pricewatch.com has the PIII 600s starting out at $90 and the Celeron 700 at $45. if you want to spend a little more, and the board would support it, you can get a PIII 750 about $100.

Cool

Hello buccaneerjedi:
It was very easy. Upgraded to 128 meg PC100 SDRAM (CAS2 crucial generic not board specific) and a Celery 700 (had to stay in budget ). There was only 1 DIMM slot not 2 as specified in the Spec Sheet, if I would have known before hand I may have sprung for the 256. I had it all completed in about 30 minutes. It easily doubled the speed of the computer Not bad for an all-in-one box
