Upgrade......
Hi all.
I'm upgrading a computer to an Intel P4 1.5Ghz processor and was just wondring which motherboard is the best bang for my buck? I don't need anything spectacular, actually the more basic the better. Any recommendations?
I'll also need a new Cases/PowerSupply to run the P4? Is that right? Everything else should be find though from the old system (ie. RAM, Drives, etc..)
Help appreciated,
Cheers

Go to <a href="http://www.asus.com" target="_blank">www.asus.com</a>
In my Opinion and many others the top all around Board for low to high end Motherboards.
I hope that someday we will be able to put away our fears and prejudices and just laugh at people.

Intel make good boards, try one of them.

Yes, you need an extra plug on the PSU to support in the increased power usage of the P4. I think the boards are slightly larger as well.

All except RAM, the P4 cannot use standard PC133/DDR RAM, and requires another type. You generally get it with the CPU. Also, two banks must be filled to work properly, (like the old SIMMS). The other banks need a terminator installed.
Try the following link, it will give you more details:

Make sure that you get the P4 stand-offs for the case or it will all be unuseable. You must must have the 4 screw-in studs for the case to make it work along with the screws that hold the HSF in place.
The new PSU's for the P4 have 2 extra connections. One is for core voltage and I believe that one is for stand-by voltage.
