    Question My Motherboard Agghhhhh

I have decided to learn a little more about my system with a view to upgrading it. I have a reasonably good system with a pII 350Mhz, and 128mb RAM. The PII is ofcourse a slotted processor. I am having great difficulty learning about my motherboards capabilities. From the Gateway site I have established that it has an fsb of 100Mhz and that it is a 440BX, but the board itself is made by some croad called Tolstoy, or maybe that is the name of the actual board which ever I can not find any information on the limitations of the board, in particular I want to know about changing the mulipliers, either to buy a new processor(likely) or to clock the one I have a little(less likely)

    Please advise

you probably want to get a different Mother board and processor if your going to upgrade. I don't know how exactly high your MoBo gets but probably not much higher. Goto pricewatch.com for good deals.

Oh I meant to say that usually BX boards are quite flexible. As you are running a 100MHz FSB you can get it to run faster than the 350 so you might be able to upgrade quite far depending on your BIOS. I'm looking at Piii550 on a Slot1 BX board.

Hope you find more about your mobo.

I looked this board up on Intel's site. I will support a P3, they list a 600MHz but that might be old. There is no listing regarding Coppermine support so becareful if you do decide to upgrade. I would try to find a Slot1 P3 600Mhz with 512KB L2 Cache. Check the following link for more info.

My brain went into standby mode and I can't get it to wake up, is there a BIOS patch for this?

I came accross something similar to this not to long ago. If your looking to max the board. You do infact need a 600Mhz Slot1 Penium with a Non-Coppermnie core.

I'm not sure as to how much luck you'll have tracking one down.
There are no stupid questions! Just stupid (l)users!
