Burning a blank cd-rw
I have a Yamaha CDRW8424E-VK burner running windows xp. I have Easy CD Creator 5. When ever I want to burn files into a cd it would start to burn. After 20min(4x) I go into my computer and the burner drive only to find that the cd would be empty. I even tried switching to diffrent brand cd's but nothing. I have tried to back up my files onto a cd for the past week but all the cd's come out empty. I even tried to use nero but it gave me some messages. I saved the log if anyone want's to read it.
Basicaly nero says
Burn process completed successfully at 4x (600 KB/).
But when it tries to verfy data,

Cannot mount the written CD

Data verification failed
I don't know what happened, I don't beleve it was the upgrade to windows XP because I was able to burn at least one cd after upgrading.
Anyone got any ideas of how to fix this?

I have a whole bunch of perfectly good CD's that I burnt with nero on xp - that then say they are empty. Drives me nuts, however I get round it by reading them on my 9x box and pulling the files back across the network.
I gave up looking for answer to this one...
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Ok now I just found out that it won't read cds, I'm guessing it's dead. Now I think it was the firmware upgrade, is there any way of going back?

If it stopped writing and then shortly after stopped reading then it sounds like its died to me. You could try using a CD-player cleaning disc but i've had limited success with these, sometimes they seem to make things worse, although in your case, this would be difficult to achieve. Buy a nice new Plextor and live happily ever after

So can anyone find an older firmware for my drive?

Contact tech support from the company that manufactored the cd-rw. They should have one they'll email you.
