    Post Intel 815 Mobos

I'm starting to feel real stupid, and angry at Intel for making these "foolproof" boards. I have a D815EEA2 board, not the first out of the 81* boards, that I have trouble getting the system to boot up consistently. At times, and I can't finger exactly when, the system just stays dark. The cpu fan works, STR LED is on, power supply is on, but no go to the video. It even sounds like it's trying to kick the video at times. I have kinda narrowed it to power management and switching power supplies.

    Does that sound likely?

Like I said, only in the 810 and 815 series have I had this trouble. I read somewhere that you have to pull the batt and power and then let the system sit for a long time (30+ mins)

I don't know. Driving me to drink again.

Any discussion on this would be appreciated.

first thought would be to replace PSU with a known good one.

when you are sure there are no psu probs , proceed.

    any beeps?

Yeah, tried a 300w. Same thing. They're both brand new PS's. The 250 has an on/off rocker, the 300 doesn't.

    ok , any beeps? ,,,

have you tried a alternative v/card?

    do the drives spin up?

if youve got a mix/match memory , try removing one or two.

lastly : i had this "type of prob on a bx board i owned 12/18 mth ago ,,,,,remove the power lead count 30 - plug in and go.

this one WAS a faulty PSU.

    lastly/lastly :

try unplugging h/d cd-rom etc and remove any (spare) cards and check for consistancy.

    good luck.

    No Beeps,
Tried using both the onboard video and a 16MB VooDoo3

Two 128 MB PC133 Chips - Identical - Brand new.

    Tried pulling all drives.

Haven't tried pulling the 30 lead.

All the components DO work on the TYAN board I just replaced the Intel with.

Still, this isn't the first time with Intel boards.

We HATES Intel, yes my precious, WE HATES THEM. (gollum)

Thanks for the replys, I hope this thred keeps going, I don't really want to give up on Intel boards, just yet.

I would just happen to say that your using a defunct board. I personaly have never had an issue with intel chipset. I HAVE had issues with low quality boards running intel chipsets. My Desktop runs an Asus CUSL2-C (815ep Intel) and i've NEVER had any problems with it. I've used Abit, Tyan Intel and Asus boards and rarely have problems. When i go to PC chips and other low quality boards i end up with tons of issues. Via is also a good chipset, but if you match it with a low quality board, you end up with problems.

In your case, I'd say the board was defective and to just replace it with another known good board.

Yeah, I did that already, too. This is the second Intel D815EEA2 board. But, still, same problem with a previous Intel board with the 810 set, don't remember the model number right now. I haven't seen the problem on any other brand using the 810 or 815 chipset, just Intel's boards.

    Curiouser and curiouser...............

I'll agree with you on this one. Intel makes good chipsets but bad boards.
