    Angry USB enabled?

I have two USB ports on my cpu which I have never used until now. my daughter has the same cpu as I do, and when we went to load in a USB scanner, we had to go into BIOS or CMOS and enable USB, but I don't remember which now as it has been two years since we did this. Any help would be deeply appreiciated. I went into CMOS and enabled IR which was a big mistake! I don't know how to undo that either.
