    Connecting 2 USB External Drives

I have been attempting for a while now to try and back up and transfer some files from my 160gb (ex drive) to my 250gb (ex drive) i'm currently using a gateway laptop and for some reason my cpu doesnt allow me to connect both at the same time.

    1. I will get an immediate error saying
-a problem occure during hardware installation....
-one of the usb deviced attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem click the this message.
(These are bubble messages that pop up from the bottom rightscreen.

    2. It will recognize both but, If i had the 160 connected from the start and then tried connecting the 250gb the 250 will allow me to view files but then the 160 will show nothing when view its drive it will show up empty inside.

    extra information.
in device manager my device says :No drivers are installed for this device.
But yet when installed alone it has a driver for it.?????

So my question is "If anyone can help me connect 2 USB Mass Storage Devices to the same computer and have both of them working so i can copy data from one to the other?"

Thank you for reading please help meeeee.

    Welcome to Windrivers Papichulo818

Do either of those drives have external power supplies?
Your symptoms sound like the laptop cannot supply enough power to both usb ports at the same time.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

I wopuld tend to agree with NooNoo and I might try connecting them both through a powered USB hub.
