Cool USB recognition on W2000 with Via Chip Set

I've an AMD800, Chaintech 7AJA, just updated to W2K SP1, but it is now not recognising the USB, I run a Zip Drive on it. Been to Knowledge Base Q246755, that said update the driver, did that and have the Feb 2001 BIOS. Still PC hangs on start up, so I have to disable USB in BIOS. Any ideas anyone? Much appreciated, Jim

By driver, are you referring to the VIA USB filter? It's NOT part of the Via 4in1 drivers. The Win2K version is available at http://www.usbman.com/WebDrivers/VIA...08/USBF108.EXE

Also, have you reserved an IRQ for USB in the BIOS? Check www.usbman.com for more troubleshooting suggestions. The best bet, though, would probably be to shell out $30-40 bucks for a USB PCI card, preferably one based on the OPTi chipsets. The VIA USB chipset absolutely sucks for anything other than simple devices (mice, joysticks, keyboards).

Which via chipset is it? There is one of the via chips that aren't supported in win2k.

    Thumbs up

Thanks Cobra and JSH. I'm going to try Cobra's ideas and take the back off the PC to see what Chip it is.

    Exclamation

The Chip is a VT82C 686A 027C9. If that helps.

Install the VIA USB Filter as suggested above.
