Post Cd rom no longer works

I recently installed a Maxtor 6.4 gig hard drive on my computer. After I ran the installation floppy and got the thing going, my CD ROM disappeared. The new hard drive took over the drive designation and now the computer won't let the thing run.
This is a Aptiva 2144-M51 model, (4 years old) running windows 95. The Maxtor is slaved to the original hard drive on local bus 1
What do I do? I a really getting tired of trying to get this thing to run. I have loaded some new drivers but this did not seem to help. HELP!!!!!!

Some motherboards will only let you put devices in sequence.
You might have to set the jumper on your your CDROM to master if it's the only one on the secondary IDE cable.
An obstacle is something you see when you take your eyes off your goal.
