WIN2K MCSE?
im currently wrapping up my win2k server class
at a local community college here in dallas and
i had some questions for someone maybe mcse 2k
certified. first of all, i havent read any transcender books or anything like that, so my
knowledge of this subject is strictly personal
experience and from school. the classes were
okay, but i dont know if they were really all that in depth compared to maybe what i need. im curious if this cert. if really tough? im looking at trying to take the PRO and the SERVER exams this next month and ive got some anxiety. what would be something to help me out? im also going to purchase the transcender books for the exams to brush up as well, but i just wanted to know if
these exams are really tough or not? thanks for
everything again.
p.s. ill have the answer to my question "fax via network" from this forum sometime tomorrow night
after class.

Well maybe this post will get more replies in the tech to tech or Certification forums. but to answer your question, I've been studying for my MCSE and these are some resources I've used.
www.cramsession.com, www.examnotes.net. I've taken and passed Pro exam and it wasn't that hard. It would help to set up a home lab with W2K Server and Pro.
I think the problem is either an ID10T or PEBCAK error

As mentioned already, home network setup in W2K is a must. I have only got the Network Infrastructure and 1 Elective left to do now. I can only tell you what helped me, everyone is different when it comes to learning for exams.
I use the Exam Cram books by Coriolis. The red ones not the silver ones. I always go through each transcender cd; which don't really give you the questions anymore but find out where your weaknesses are for certain. I always purchase a Troytec study guide, www.troytec.com, (now known as testkiller), which will give you a BIG clue on the questions, ($29 each subject). I never look at a Microsoft book, I did once and it nearly cost me the exam, (NT4). There are also some excellent resources on the internet, the best being http://www.mcse-braindumps.com/ or http://www.mcmcse.com/topsites/index.html which will lead you to loads more.
The Professional and Server exams are straightforward. The AD, Network Inf and design exams are b****rds. But if I can pass them then so can you, good luck.

The Pro and server tests are easy. The other core are a bit tougher, I estimate you need to spend at least 15hrs studying to pass each one. Use the Troytec studyguides and the cheetsheets from Keen Interactive...if you can get your hands on them. I consider the 2000 round of tests as easy, if not easier then the NT4 exams. Keep it simple, study hard and fast and you will have no problems.

I must disagree with you on the troytec issue. When I read the one for the Directory Sevices exam (70-217) I used it alongside lots of other material. I found that in all of the 160+ questions it gave me that only 2 appeared remotely anything like exam questions I actually got. I had more almost exact questions from the Transcender CD, which is an official study guide. What the Troytec guides give you is the Microsoft way of questioning and gets you used to it. Their cram sheets are also excellent for learning the relevant points.
In my opinion an MSCE certification just means you are good at taking computer related exams, not necessarily good at computers! From the questions I have ever had in all exams taken, I would say that only 15% could be said to apply in real life.
For anyone who is about to take an exam, you would be mad not to get all the information on an exam that you can possibly get. The MCSE exams cover such a large amount of data that you would need a photographic memory to pass without some knowledge of what's coming.
