Wink What path MCSE / CNE

Currently I'm deciding on a path for my certfications. I have a MCP and a CNA. Our shop sells both and has MCSE's and CNE's but when this question is brought up multiple disputes that contine for weeks begin.

I myself would like to do the RHCE but our compay will pay for only one of two tracks, MCSE or CNE. In the area I work there is a pretty good balance between the two. I hear that NT is taking over but have yet to see it.

    Any thoughts? <IMG SRC="smilies/confused.gif" border="0">

IMHO I think that Novell is a dying animal (sadly) - unless they come up with something that is immensely more popular than NT.
That said, the way MS may be going with XP (check out www.grc.com for one opinion) means that Novell doesn't seem all that bad after all.
My opinion is biased though - I am MCP ( a few times over) and am going for W2kMCSE - and have never really used Novell.
Check out the job pages - how many people want NT and how many want Novell? also, how long do the Novel job adverts stick on the jobsites for? coz NT ones tend to get snapped up quite quickly, but Novell jobs may not be so quick to go - especially if there is a shortage.

Or you could just flip a coin.

Good luck with whichever one you do. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Both. THere are still many shops that use NetWare - but are moving strongly to NT - so both would be the only logical solution, and considering that we are in this field to learn - both should be on the list if your company pays for them, however you should get your MCSE FIRST! I only say this because currently the MCSE is such a well rated cert that most employers will accept that in the stead of a BS degree. Then get the CNE - as it will show an employer that you are a well rounded tech capable of reccommending the correct colution to thier problem (as opposed to be swayed by the cert that you have) and that you are dedicated to your education.

Novel has actually made somewhat of a comeback. Although it outdoes Windows in some areas there is no way I would consider spending my time studying it. I don't anticipate ever having to work with it and I really don't want to. I have found it to be awkward (probably because I don't know how to use it), so I will focus my energies on Windows. That's the future, my man.

Go for the W2K MCSE!! Novell is on the way out, meaning there aren't as many users as there use to be out there. Alot of companies are changing over to MS, sad but true.
