[RESOLVED] installing cd-rom

Have an old 486 without a port for a cd-rom. I've been told to connect our Mitsumi FX400 to the printer port, and then connect the printer through that. I've done that, and the printer works but the cd-rom doesn't. I've no idea where to start. Please help.

sam, i'm not sure i follow..are we talking about an external cd-rom drive? if so the external cd-rom drive should have a passs through port on the back of it (providing it's not to old) if so hook the cd-rom to the paralel port then the printer to the pass through..

word of warning if your using the cd drive and try to print at the same time you may experiance some problems as most printers don't like this arrangement.

if this is not what you ment clarify the post and i'll have another go..
