HELLO, I'M TRYING TO INSTALL THIS MODEM UNDER WINDOWS 2000 AND IT JUST DOESN'T WANT TO RECOGNIZE IT. I EVEN WENT TO THE USR WEBSITE FOR UPDATES AND STILL DOES NOT LIKE IT.
ANY TIPS.

you may need to go into control panel and click add hardware, then select the device and then try to force it to take the driver.

no, it doesn't work. it doesn't want to take the drivers.

My experience is that W2K is notorious for randomly working with internal modems. The only consistent solution that I've found (on six different computers) is to switch to an external modem. I've never experienced any problems then.

generally with USR modems you have to install the drivers BEFORE you install the modem.

I'm just interested, is the os seeing the modem and you can't get the driver to load or is it not seeing the modem period. USR's are sometimes fussy about their drivers, be sure that you are using the right one. Check the numbers on the modem to make sure of what you have (not trying to insult you but darn USR's will sometimes have to be lead to the driver before it can find it and it doesn't always like anything but a certain one). well it does see the modem. it doesn't like the drivers at all. i made sure i donwloaded the right drivers, i even donwloaded some other drivers to see if it would take it but no it didn't.
any ideas???

You have a win modem or in other words a software modem. The drivers are probably the right ones, but you need the software program that came with the modem to make it work. Try using the diskettes that came with the modem because I think your problem is not having enough software to make the darn thing work. Software modems are a pain in the you know what. If you purchase a new one, buy a hardware modem like a 3577 (oem) and it will probably work with out any problem. Hope this helps.

In the control panel is there an UNKOWN PCI resource. If so then this may be your modem. Use the update driver button and it point it to the new driver.
