Power button
In the win2k power options I set the power button to "Power Off" but when I press it it says "The PC cannot go on stand by because the Intel Wireless series base station won't allow it".
Why is it trying to stand by when I select Power Off for the power button's action?
Thanks

You have to change the power button options in the system Bios. It'll be there and it will either be set to standby or instant off, or soft off. Problem solved. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Try holding your power button in for about 4 seconds, or turn soft off off.

Holding it for 4 seconds cuts to power without shutting down windows first. I remember just after I had installed win2k, if I pressed the power button, it shut down windows, then turned off the power. Why doesn't it do this any more?
Thanks

If I select shut down from the start menu the system shuts down and the power turns off. Before When I pressed the power button it did exactly the same thinf but now it tries to go in sleep mode instead.

Is this an HP/Compac or something like it? if so, you need to install the s/w that does that...

My WinME system shuts down when you press the power button on the keyboard but goes into suspend when you press the power button. Try getting your hands on one of those keyboards and try it.

Geezer
Aren't there some more bios settings like s1,s2,s3 that have something to do with this, or is that for suspend?

I got an Intel Wireless keyboard and I'll never change it for any other keyboard

Are you sure Windows is in ACPI mode?
Right-click on the My computer icon on your desktop and go to properties. then head on over to Hardware Manager. Check the "computer" settings and make sure it's using ACPI.
By the way, what is so difficult about using the shutdown menu that you have to do all this research and are probably beating yourself up trying to figure this out?
Not trying to flame you but this seems like a non-problem to me.

I just don't like having a useless button on my PC. It's also easier to just push a button to turn the power off, especially when the monitor is off
