[RESOLVED] windows won't shutdown, just reboots.
System:
Via VT8363 (BIOS -AWARD V6.00PG)
Duron 750
ATX (300w)
SBlive value
ATI 128 2000 32MB
seagate HD
LG DVD
Teac Writer
WIn 2000 Prof.
Prob - System reboots when I shutdown, I have tried changing all sorts of settings in bios power management to no avail. "Automatically reboot" is disabled in advanced options.
Computer type is set to ACPI and there doesn't appear to be any probs in device manager.
One more thing...Windows loses the external modem unless it is switched on at boot.

I have found that is usually a hardware problem. Most likely the motherboard???
Good Luck

Enable ACPI in the BIOS....without ACPI, Windows2000 will treat any system like a legacy system, which it can't shut down..only reboot.

We had a problem very similar with w2k machine running Adaptec drivers for cd creator and ez cd. Until the very latest driver was installed the machine would re-boot on load, and would not shut-down on request, simply re-booted.
Worth a look

on my machine it was enabling acpi in the bios. it was set to "always restart" and i changed it to "enable standby". i can hibernate (yuk) or standby/shutdown. take a look at power management settings on your bios.

Solved the prob by updating the bios - I wasn't sure who manufactured the board but I found out it was ECS. Go to www.ecs.com.tw/
Thanks everyone.
