CD-Rom Lockups in Win98
The problem I have is that when trying to install some programs the instalation program locks up and I must do a hard reset. One of the programs is a CDRW and it won't even give me the install screen. Im wondering if mabey its just the cd or my drivers. The CD drive light stays on untill I reboot...I have no other problems installing other cd's though, Ive only had this problem with a few...I have win98 with service pack 1, K6-III 400, 128MB PC100, Gigabyte MB and a Memorex CDROM.

I have had a similar problem after installing
a new, much faster CDROM. I reinstalled the
old CDROM (4X) and the programs worked fine. My novice take on this is that the faster CD's work on clean/unscratched disks well. If the CD has been handled or scratched at all the faster CDROM just hangs after try to start the program. For what it's worth.
