Arrow Losing T1..need immediate help

Hey Guys,
We have a T1 coming into a Cisco 1720 router with an IP of IE. 199.199.199.199.(I don't know what it is off the top of my head.) We were just informed as of Friday were losing our T1. The company that hosts our MX record and gave us our IP address' will let us keep our IP address'. Is there a way in 2000 Server to set up routing and remote access to dial into the internet using an internal modem and assign that modem our IP address. So that our exchange server can still get our mail.

Any ideas?? Kind of an emergency!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanx,

HUH??? You want to set up a modem on your Server to dial into your ISP? I'm not understanding where the modem needs to dial into. Or are you trying the set up the modem to be a host for the IP address, having an always on connection with the modem so that you can still get mail?

A couple of questions. You are losing your T1, but are you remaining with the same ISP? Is your exchange server on the Server machine that was connected to the T1, or was it a machine on your internal network? And by "internal" modem, do you mean a modem that is inside your machine, or a modem that on your internal network? Is the ISP still going to host the MX record?

I really don't understand exactly what you're asking here, but with a little more info, we should be able to keep you "in touch"!

You ought to be able to enable Internet Connection Sharing or something... set the primary machine (the one dialing) up as a proxy. In the TCP/IP settings of the Dial-up connection, just set your IP. The ISP shouldn't have a problem with it. Just use their gateways, etc. You just might not have access to some of their resources. You can also make the machine multi-homed, but you can't have one DHCP assigned address and one static on the same adapter, AFAIK, so check with your new ISP if you need access to any of their resources, like a POP server or whatnot, which I doubt. It'd be a pain to go into more detail, and I only have Win2k Pro installed on this machine, but I hope I'm kinda steering you in the right direction... email me at [email protected] if you want a bit more info, and I'll see what I can dig up.

I did that once when our connection went down for a bit...although we use Erols, and they have it set up so if I use a specific username, the IP (of our router) is automatically set for us. If you dial into any normal ISP...most likely their system will want to assign you an IP, unless you talk to them in advance and get them to set it up so your system can use a static IP. GOod luck!
