[RESOLVED] no ping?
The ping command does not work on my windows nt 4.0 machine: I open an ms-dos window and type in ping at the 'c' prompt (this is the hard drive\partition where my operating system is)and it says, "The name specified is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program, or batch file." What gives?

Just grab a copy of Ping.exe from another machine and copy it into c:\winnt\system32
That should fix you up.

No dice. That file was already on my machine, but I overwrote it anyway with a file from another machine upon which the command works. The two files appeared to be the same, e.g. size and last modified date. ???!!!

Sounds like a problem with the path. Make sure that c:\winnt\system32 exists in your path.

OS/400...At least it's not Microsoft.

Right on. I changed my dos prompt to read from the appropriate directory. Peace.
