config.sys is gone
Need help, I recently had to reinstall windows98. Everything went fine except that now there is nothing in my CONFIG.SYS, I was told to reload my DVD drivers and it would reload my config.sys. The problem is that my dvd is a ATAPI and no drivers can be found

Did you run the installation disk? Probably a stupid question, but sometimes the installation applet will modify the ATAPI to redirect the OS to look for a driver in a directory (folder) other than windows. I suggest that you look at your documentation that came with your drive. Your fix is probably there.
In most instances win98 doesn't need a config.sys, although if you had one before maybe some device /app on your machine requires one.

Look in your root directory, there might be a few backups of config.sys (look for config.bak, config.000, anything that starts with config.) Open them with notepad, one of them may contain the lines you need.
Hope you find what you need one way or another : - )
